MBBR Wastewater Treatment System

MBBR Wastewater Treatment System

The MBBR wastewater treatment system combines membrane separation technology with biological treatment, replacing conventional activated sludge and filtration units. Its powerful separation capability produces near-zero turbidity, enabling direct reuse without tertiary treatment. Compact, efficient, and cost-effective, it is ideal for both municipal and industrial wastewater reuse applications.

Description

The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor(MBBR) is an advanced wastewater treatment technology developed in the late 20th century, integrating membrane separation with biological treatment in one system. The membrane module replaces traditional secondary clarifiers and filters, providing superior effluent quality with SS < 1 mg/L and turbidity < 1 NTU.

By decoupling hydraulic retention time (HRT) from sludge retention time (SRT), the system maintains high biomass concentration, significantly increasing treatment capacity and process stability. The treated water can be directly reused, expanding wastewater recycling possibilities while lowering operating costs.

Its modular, compact design saves up to 50% of land area compared to conventional systems, and its automated operation reduces maintenance and labor requirements.

Technical Parameters:

  • Operating Temperature: 5–45°C

  • Average Pore Size: 0.10 μm (membrane thickness: 40 μm)

  • Effluent Quality: Turbidity < 1 NTU; SS < 1 mg/L

  • Membrane Area: 8 m²

  • Recommended Air-to-Water Ratio: 25:1 – 30:1

  • Operating Pressure: -0.01 to -0.03 MPa

Key Features:

  • High-Performance Solid-Liquid Separation: Removes SS, colloids, and dead bacteria without the need for sedimentation or filtration tanks.

  • Compact & Space-Saving: Higher biomass concentration allows shorter HRT and smaller tank volume, saving up to 50% of land area.

  • Superior Effluent Quality: Effectively removes bacteria and some viruses, reducing disinfection chemical usage and improving water reuse potential.

  • Low Sludge Production: Long SRT minimizes excess sludge generation, reducing sludge handling costs.

  • Stable & Resilient: Retains diverse microbial populations, improving nitrification and biodegradation of complex organics.

  • Easy Maintenance: Unique operating mode prevents membrane fouling, with long cleaning intervals and simple maintenance.

  • Modular & Scalable: Flexible design allows easy capacity expansion.

Applications:

  • Municipal sewage treatment and water reuse projects

  • Industrial wastewater treatment (food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical)

  • Residential communities, hotels, and commercial complexes

  • Projects requiring high-quality effluent for recycling and environmental compliance
